Keep On Rollin’ - Part 2
BAND/ARTIST:
Datura4
VENUE:
Indi Bar
DATE:
1 February 2025
If there is a collection of mad musical scientists in the Perth rock blues boogie scene then Datura4 stake a big claim on that title.
Led by the legendary Dom Mariani (guitar/vocals) they cook up musical mysteries, on stage their cerebral wave lengths are connected as they will each other to conjure up creations that explode and manifest as top-class boogie blues rock of the highest order.
A nine-song set list featured three new songs from the new album that is cooking in the recording studio. One of which presented, for me, a new kind of road trip for this band. An almost jazz like intro amalgamated into complex twin guitaring exploding into rip and tear rhythms.
Along with some of the older classics (think ‘Diggin My Own Grave’, ‘Black Speakers’ et al) a dynamic master class of boogie blues rock meeting stoner acid was presented.
Everything Bob on keys touches turns to aural gold, Joe on guitar slide picks out targets with laser like precision while Dom conducts the unit with meticulous rips, rhythmic fuzz and also finding time to take on the vocalist role. Wazza drives the mix with enthusiastic, hard and heavy drumming. Stu ‘Hit Man’ Loasby supports it all with dark, mafia style bass.
This set was met with crazed abandon by the live music aficionado’s that filled the house.
So with a new album to look forward to, along with the supporting gigs that will follow on from this West Coast Highway supporting set it’s all engines revving on the Datura4 machine.
